The 5th grade students at Menifee Central recently had a special opportunity to hear from Hector Alcala, Menifee County Judge Executive. Judge Alcala visited our school to speak with students about Menifee County’s plans for America 250, the nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
During his visit, Judge Alcala shared exciting information about how Menifee County plans to recognize this historic milestone. He explained the importance of honoring our nation’s history while also thinking about how we can continue building a strong future for our community.
Students were especially engaged as Judge Alcala discussed what freedom and liberty mean to him. He explained that freedom includes the ability to make choices, express ideas, and pursue opportunities, while liberty also comes with responsibility.
Judge Alcala encouraged students to begin practicing good citizenship now. He shared that being a good citizen means:
Showing respect to others
Helping your community
Following laws and rules
Learning about government and history
Taking pride in where you live
The 5th grade students asked thoughtful questions and made meaningful connections to their civics lessons. This visit helped bring classroom learning to life and reminded students that they are the future leaders of Menifee County.
We thank Judge Alcala for taking the time to invest in our students and inspire them to be responsible, informed citizens as we prepare for America 250!
