The 5th Grade students at Northern Elementary have been learning about the Three Levels of Government.We discussed the role that the leader/group have in each level (Local, State, Federal) from each branch (Executive, Legislative, Judicial). My students were instructed to trace and label different cut-outs that we used to make a 3D mobile to hang from our classroom ceiling. Students enjoyed singing the famous “Schoolhouse Rock: Preamble Song” and “Schoolhouse Rock: I’m Just a Bill” while they labeled their pieces. The last step of the project was to use their graphic organizer to help them to construct their mobiles. We used clothing hangers to attach the pieces to. Students loved being able to create this fun project. An extra bonus is that our 5th Grade Social Studies classroom looks beautiful and students had fun while learning about the Levels of Government.
