Our students recently had the opportunity to participate in Kentucky Heritage Days, and it was an unforgettable hands-on learning experience! Throughout the day, students stepped back in time to explore what life was like in Kentucky long ago.
They learned how families lived and worked by churning their own butter, using a spinning wheel, and washing clothes with a washboard and soap—just like children would have done in the past. Students also explored old-fashioned toys and games, gaining an appreciation for how children entertained themselves before modern technology.
In addition, students observed metal and iron work, learning how essential tools and everyday items were made by hand. Each activity helped bring Kentucky history to life and gave students a deeper understanding of the skills, hard work, and creativity required in the “olden days.”
It was a fantastic day of experiential learning, and students were excited to connect what we’ve been learning in class to real-world historical practices!
