Third grade students at Lynn Camp Elementary explored poetry by writing creative comparison poems. After learning about the history and future of space exploration, students incorporated their learning with literacy instruction. Students focused on using descriptive language, vivid imagery, and strong comparisons to paint a picture in the reader’s mind. They worked hard to choose powerful words and organize their poems into neat stanzas. Not only did this activity strengthen their understanding of figurative language, but it also encouraged creativity and confidence in writing while reinforcing science and social studies concepts!
