G.R. Hampton Celebrates Veteran’s Day

GR Hampton Elementary School proudly hosted a schoolwide Veterans Day luncheon to honor those who have served our country and to help students better understand the importance of Veterans Day. All students gathered in the gym for a meaningful assembly focused on respect, civic duty, and sacrifice.

The program began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by our kindergarten classes, setting a respectful and patriotic tone for the day. Students then had the opportunity to hear from our guest speaker, Mrs. Janet Jones. Mrs. Jones is a physical education teacher at Knox County Middle School and a former member of the National Guard. She shared that she joined the National Guard later in life than many of her peers. At the time, she was already teaching but felt a strong call to serve her country. Mrs. Jones spoke about how important that decision was to her and encouraged students by reminding them that goals can be achieved at any point in life through hard work, commitment, and perseverance.

During the assembly, students with family members who are veterans were recognized, allowing the school community to honor the sacrifices made by those families as well. This recognition helped students make personal connections to the true meaning of Veterans Day.

Following the assembly, students who had a veteran attend with them were invited to a special luncheon along with their guests. The luncheon was generously provided by our FRYSC coordinator and served as a time for fellowship, gratitude, and appreciation.

The Veterans Day luncheon at GR Hampton Elementary was a powerful reminder of the importance of civic duty and sacrifice. Through this experience, students not only honored our veterans but also learned meaningful lessons about service, dedication, and the freedoms we enjoy because of those who have served.
